Fifteen minutes. That's the difference. Kids who are read to daily hear millions more words than kids who aren't — and vocabulary is the single biggest predictor of school success.

Pick a time that always happens

After bath. Before bed. The consistency matters more than the length.

Let them pick the book

Even if it's the same book for the fiftieth time. Repetition is how kids learn.

Use voices

Be silly. Whisper. Growl. The performance is half the magic.

Talk about the story

Ask "what would you do?" and "why do you think they felt that way?" Reading builds empathy when we discuss it — and stories are a powerful way to help toddlers handle big feelings.
